"Honi and the Circle of Stories" is a new musical for families that uses "StorySongs" to bring traditional folktales and folklore to life, connecting us to each other and to our planet in the process.
But what is a "Storysong?"
A "Storysong" is a song that tells a narrative, with a clear beginning, middle and end, often featuring developed characters, a distinct setting, conflict, resolution, and moral, all conveyed through the lyrics.

Daniel Barash
(Music and Lyrics) has a degree in Education from NYU, is a Kennedy Center National Teaching Artist, and is the Director of Firelight Shadow Theater.
Sarah Lefton
(Book) is the creator of Shaboom!, and brings huge expertise in baking learning outcomes into memorable writing designed for the family crowd.
Dan Cantrell (Composer and Music Director) is an Emmy winning composer and multi-instrumentalist, known for his creative approach to documentary film and television work.

Honi and the Tree: Beyond You and Me" is a Midrashic "Rip Van Winkle" tale in which the protagonist learns the importance of l'dor v'dor, from generation to generation.

"Elijah and the Fisherman" is a circular tale about a fisherman who becomes a baker, then judge, then mayor, and then back to fisherman(!). It is a story about being thankful for what one already has.

"Needle and Thread" is a storysong version of "Something from Nothing" in which a girl uses her resourcefulness to transform a blanket to a jacket, then a vest, then a satchel, then a button. After the button is lost, all that has happened provides the "material" to write the song.
